THE PERFORMER & WRITER
Onyi (pronounced Own-Yee) Okoli graduated in 2008 from the University of Southern California with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Theatre and a minor certificate in Communication. During her sophomore year in college, Onyi restarted the Black Entertainment and Theatrical Association, a student-run organization. She has directed and starred in George C.Wolfe’s The Colored Museum, the 2005 & 2006 BETA Sketch Comedy Shows, and her own play, The Light in the Darkness. Onyi also directed August Wilson’s Fences in honor of his legacy.
Inspired by Danny Hoch, the founder of Hip Hop Theatre in New York, Onyi wrote her one-woman show, Charmed, I'm Sure! and premiered it on campus her junior year. In March 2010, Onyi produced Charmed, I'm Sure! in her hometown of Baltimore aka Baldimore, Maryland, which received rave reviews and media coverage (Check out The Press & The Promo section). She is happy to perform the show for her peoples in New York City!!!!
